This is going to be short because the typing controls are a bit slow. I haven’t tried any Flash content yet but will report when I do. So far this thing rocks!
So there’s loads of talk around PaperVision3D and how it’s going to “fundamentally alter the aesthetics of Flash on the web” thanks for the sound bite Aral.
There’s also loads of people all over the place hacking at the WiiMote. So far I’ve seem WiiJing, HalfLife played with the WiiMote and WiiFlash
There’s a new set of examples of PaperVision3D on their Blog. The one that stands out for me though is by a German guy called Joa. He’s taken 2 very exciting emerging technologies and merged them to produce, WiiFlash3D. The last bit of his clip is IMHO genius.
I hope to have a Wii before the end of the month and pre-ordered my PS3 today
I just remembered seeing Keith Peters playing with a hacked mouse containing a Phidget at FOTB, proof that there’s no such thing as an original idea
:edit: to add a ping to fWiidom
Apple iPhone and the Flash Player
0 Comments Published by admin January 30th, 2007 in Flash PlatformThere’s a very interesting post over on ZD-Net which is confirming every Apple/Flash geeks dream, Flash Player on the iPhone.
This goes a little further to clear up the mysterious correspondence I had with an un-namable Adobe employee which went something like this.
Me: Can you see a future when Flash is deployed to the iPhone?
Adobe: psst don’t tell anyone but, yes, and we’re gonna have access to the excellerometer and proximity values
Me: That’s wicked! So can you give me any more details?
Adobe: What’s going on, I never said that!
Me: Err, ok I guess NDA’s suck, look me up when you can tell me more.
Adobe: Silence.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

John Davey announced in person at last nights LFPUG that FOTB was most definately not a one off.
Dates: 4,5,6,7 of November
Tickets: Day passes, student discounts and a special rate for returning attendies.
Venue: Brighton
Speakers so far: John Grden, Robert Penner
I also heard whispers the John might be organising some smaller events, still in Brighton and still Flash related, watch this space.
Flex, PHP and XML - a tutorial
6 Comments Published by admin January 18th, 2007 in Flash Platform, TutorialsI’ve wanted to have a play with Flex for a while, I see the Framework and components as an easier way to build RIA’s without some of the hassle of writing complex components.
The problem I’ve had previously when attempting to build anything was hooking up the data/back end. And it’s true there is a distinct lack of tutorials online explaining how to tie Flex into a few simple PHP calls, there’s plenty of AMF PHP and .net stuff.
Eclipse to browser quicker with Automator
1 Comment Published by admin November 8th, 2006 in Flash Platform** Disclaimer, the below post will only be useful if you’re building Flash/Flex in Eclipse, on an intel Mac OSX **
So I haven’t been posting because I’ve been busy with the doing. This new job is cool and all but it’s also really hard work, not least because I’m completely new to the Eclipse development method. Of course I’m learning lots and will share, I promise.
Yesterday afternoons amazing discover can’t go without sharing so I’m going to kick off with that.

Start my new job tomorrow :)
0 Comments Published by admin September 10th, 2006 in Flash Platform, JobsThe last couple of weeks have been rather hectic.
A month ago on Monday I handed in my notice after accepting an offer at Work Communications, it wasn’t a bad offer, good money - better work - nicer office, but I knew it wasn’t going to stretch me THAT much.
At the time of accepting the offer I had checked with all the other opportunities to check they were all a no, the only one I couldn’t get an answer out of was Mike at Mook. When I spoke to him at the 2nd London Flash User Group Meeting he said he was going to be moving house and out in the US on work so might not be contactable for a while. I did send a cursory email but didn’t get a response so figured, that was a no.
So when I bumped into Mike at the next London Flash User meeting, I explained that I’d got a new job and that I was going to start in a few weeks. After he showed me a couple of Mooks latest projects on his laptop including Gangs of London for the PSP, I was pretty impressed to say the least.
On the walk back to the tube station I thought to myself, “I would drop everything to work for that guy”, so when I got home I wrote Mike a email saying just that. It worked, I had an interview the Wednesday after and by last Wednesday I had the offer.
I’m really looking forward to working for Mook and the challenges it’s going to bring. I’m going to be learning a lot over the next couple of month and hope to document as much as I can here.
PS. The previous 7 posts were just me cleaning out my drafts, new job, clean sheet ‘n’ all ![]()
A great new way to surf the web, Stumble Upon is a plugin/toolbar/extention for Firefox or IE that serves you freshly discovered sites direct to your browser.
You can set the sorts of things you like to find as well as entering a search criteria in the toolbar. It’s a useful little gadget for filling that 5 mins while you’re on hold with the bank or when you’re sat in front of the computer trying to remember what that site was your mate was telling you about in the pub last night.
I’ve mentioned before that I find the whole “Web 2.0″ thing a little over hyped to say the least, this is a really nice twist.
